Skirt the Rules

What's the perfect antidote for post-summer/pre-fall weather wardrobe? Skirts, of course! It's still too hot for full on fall layering and too late to keep sporting pastel summer minis. Keep the hemlines short and show off what's left of your summer tan before those icky tights have to make a reappearance.

My favorite spot in Central Park is the Sailboat Pond. I love spending Sunday afternoons there and if I think far enough in advance, I'll pick up a snack or lunch from the food hall at the bottom of The Plaza Hotel.

Now that it's finally getting cooler out, I'm dusting off my favorite fall clothes like my cappuccino colored cape from a few seasons ago and these tassel loafers. While spring is my all time favorite season, I've learned to love New York in the fall. There's just something about the city in the fall that makes the end of the sweltering summer totally worth it.

A Velveteen Dream

Velvet is having a big moment right now. From clothing and accessories to home decor, I've always had a thing for its luxe-ness.

One of my favorite velvet pieces is a plum colored J.Crew blazer with lime green lining. I've had the jacket since middle school (#vintage?)and I'm glad I've held onto it.

When I moved to the city and started hunting for furniture to fill my apartment, I couldn't pass up a navy blue velvet couch my mom and I found. The tufted cushions add the perfect accent.

Last February when I saw I saw pictures photos from Tory Burch's Fall/Winter 2017 runway show, I couldn't take my eyes off the beautiful velvet ribbons tied in asymmetrical bows around the low tousled ponytails.

Other velvet pieces I'm loving include these shoes from Zara and this skirt from J.Crew. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for my next velveteen dream. Let me know if you find anything good!

Out Of Office

In a few weeks, I'm heading back down South for a family vacation. I've been looking forward to this since I found out about it during my first New York City winter. We're staying on a boat in Charleston, so it will be a week full of sunning, fishing, and bopping into town to shop on King Street.

I'm packing my favorite summer pieces with plenty of bathing suits and breezy dresses. A few things making the trip with me are this swimsuit from Solid & Striped, my perfectly worn-in Canfora Sandals, these retro chic sunnies, a great sun hat, and a stylish and practical beach towel.

Good Jeans

A Jane Birkin-esque inspired outfit that ties in her iconic and cool Bohemian flair.

J.Crew chambray shirt  One of my favorite shirts for layering under sweaters or just wearing by itself. The blousy fit and gathered detailing on the back adds a feminine twist to the run-of-the-mill chambray shirt. But if you're not into the whole Canadian Tuxedo look, try a classic shirt instead.

J.Crew wide leg chinos  There's something about a good pair of pants that make an outfit look effortlessly chic.

Frances Valentine Honeypot Basket  The perfect miniature straw purse for carrying all of your essentials. I also love this seagrass crossbody.

Loeffler Randall pumps  Give your outfit a little lift with these natural colored round toe pumps.

Krewe sunglasses  You can't forget the perfect pair of tortoise sunnies.

Wintry Mix

Here's a mix of pretty things that are are sure to cure any ounce of winter blues you might be feeling.

Slim Aarons coffee table book  After visiting the Slim Aarons exhibit at the Staley-Wise Gallery back in October, I bought this book. I love flipping through and reading the story behind some of Slim Aarons' most iconic shots. It will give you so much inspiration! It's a must read (and see)!

J.Crew cashmere sweater  It's blue, it's a sweater, and it has a bow. I'm sold. Such a good piece to add to your winter wardrobe.

Nest candle  The Japanese Black Currant scent reminds me of home! Rich notes of Japanese black currant with Mirabelle plum, fig, and sandalwood. It sits on my bookshelf and I light it any chance I can get.

Clarins lip comfort oil  This seems to be the only thing that's saving my lips from the harsh dryness of the winter. The lip treatment is light and I can definitely feel a difference. It's a miracle! I use the honey shade, but the next one I want to try is red berry

Serena & Lily scalloped sheets  Paired with my duvet, it's like sleeping on a cloud.

Neely & Chloe tassle loafers  A pair of shoes that have been on my radar for a while now. These would be perfect for those mild winter days when you can leave the boots at home.

Home for the Holidays

Although the weather might not feel Christmassy outside, it sure feels like it inside. I managed to escape in the wee hours of the morning during one of New York City's first snowstorms to fly South for the holidays.

My mom and I have been cooking up a storm and making sure everything is set for our Christmas festivities. From decorating the house with paperwhites to planning holiday parties with our neighbors, the holidays always remind me of how nice it is to cherish family traditions.

Smorgasburg in Williamsburg

Looking for something fun to do on a Saturday in New York? Venture into Brooklyn and try out all of the infamous foods you see in your Instagram newsfeed. Lauren and I are always bookmarking restaurants to try-out and Smorgusburg was the perfect place to knock a few off our list. We met up with Drew and his friend, Pete and made our way into foodie heaven. First on our list was to try the Ramen Burger. Man, that was delicious! Lauren went for the Wowful ice-cream next and I managed to sneak a few bites...

Next time your wondering what to do on the weekend, give Smorgusburg a try. The line for the Ramen Burger goes by quicker than would you think, I promise!
